Extradose drops most of the original Born in Roma's three-jasmine structure down to a single jasmine sambac and turns the volume up on everything else - blackcurrant, rum and bourbon vanilla pushed into a sweeter, boozier, considerably more intense register. Strong projection, eight-plus hours - closer to a Parfum than the pillar's original Eau de Parfum.

About this perfume

Blackcurrant opens it tart and dark, bergamot and mandarin barely cutting through before rum arrives - warm, faintly boozy, unmistakably an evening note. Jasmine sambac keeps a thread of the original's florality alive, but bourbon vanilla dominates the base almost entirely, thick and dessert-like rather than the original's woodier finish. It is built to be worn after dark, full stop.

Valentino Garavani founded the house in Rome in 1960 and gave couture one of its few genuinely proprietary colours in Valentino red. The fragrance line was relaunched in 2019 under a partnership with L'Oréal, and the Born in Roma pillars — built on studded bottles and unusually woody florals — have since become the house's most commercially successful scents.
